It should be easy, sadly, to be put on to scammers, if you go to the Gumtree website and contact landlords advertising houses or flats for rent. Your best bet would be to contact those whose accommodation has been advertised for more than, say, six weeks. Ask the landlord/s if they've had emails from anyone purporting to want their flat but stating they can't come and look at it owing to their present location. These people go on to try and draw you in to giving your bank A/C no., phone no etc., and to induce you to accept a complicated method of payment for the flat (probably involving Western Union)-which effectively means they'll trouser YOUR money, if you fall for it. Scammers LOVE Gumtree.
